With the beginning of a new year come new goals, resolutions, and outlooks. For years I’ve been trying to find my calling, and with that came new goals and outlooks. I tried picking a word for the year, and that lasted all of a week or two. I gave up on resolutions years ago.
The definition of a calling is a strong inner impulse toward a particular course of action especially when accompanied by conviction of divine influence.
I am happy to announce to you, and the rest of the world that I have found my calling. (Insert angels singing here!)
I found some notes in my bible that indicates that our calling from God is to become like Christ. (Notice I said “our” calling, and not “my” calling.)
I’ve been studying for a ladies bible class that I am teaching, and found myself going down different rabbit holes when something else would catch my attention. Being worthy of His calling was one of those rabbit holes.
In 2 Thessalonians, Paul is writing to the church in Thessalonica, and all believers everywhere. In chapter 1, verse 11, he says: “We constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
To be “worthy of his calling” means to want to do what is right and good. We aren’t perfect, we are human after all, but we are trying.
Our calling is to become like Christ! We, as Christians, are worthy of His calling! We want to do what is right and what is good! We pray for Him to fulfill our good purposes!
Since we know what our calling is, let’s implement it this year! This isn’t a resolution. This is what we were placed on this earth to do! Now, go out and find your way to be Christ-like. If you are prompted by your faith to do something then do it. How can it be wrong if it is right and good!
