Have you ever felt God was preparing you for something? Have you ever been through so many troubling times you couldn’t help but wonder and worry about what may be next, or if God was even near? I have.
You see, I began my journey with Christ not too many years ago, and things started appearing to me in a different light. Although I had a relationship with Jesus, I still endured many trials. Sometimes I believe people have this idea that the “Christian journey” is an easy one, and I am here to testify that’s just not the case. In fact, it seemed every time I thought it couldn’t get harder, it did.
Moving a family of seven away from all they knew was difficult to say the least, but even more challenging was overcoming being a victim of an emotional affair. My husband resigning from a job that was supposed to “bring in millions” was no picnic, and I would have thought that receiving a cancer diagnosis of one of my precious children would have done me in.
Glory be to God, I have overcome things that I never before thought possible!
As Christians, we are not promised an easy road, but I put my hope and my family’s future in the hands of Jesus. That’s worth the uphill climb! Yes, you will still endure many trials, but there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel when you know Jesus is walking you through it!
In John 16:33 we are reminded of that hope; “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!” (NIV)
And one of my favorite verses is Joshua 1:9 where we are reminded, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (NIV)
What do we have to be afraid of with God on our side? Although hard, I believe there is great purpose in our suffering. This is not heaven, and our suffering is minuscule compared to the suffering Jesus endured on our behalf. While walking through our own agony, hopefully we can be reminded of what He did for us! But there is more…
God has a perfect plan, and none of our suffering is wasted! Everyone will experience lemons –trials- of some sort, but the honey that God can produce from those lemons is so worth enduring the bitterness for a little while. In the midst of our trials, our faith grows, our souls are molded, and we draw nearer to the Lord’s sweetness!
In our eternal life, God promises us there will be no “lemons”! Instead it will be a land of “milk and honey”!
What lemons have been thrown your way? There is hope, peace, and joy that can come from them if you lay them at the feet of Jesus trusting Him fully with them.
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (NIV)
